Technical difficulties in the construction of automotive color changing film: curvature treatment and edge wrapping process

The complex curves and edge details of the vehicle body are the core challenges of construction, which require a combination of material characteristics and tool innovation.

Arc processing technology

Front windshield: Adopting the "vertical cutting+stretching shaping" process, using a Japanese MINI JET baking gun to locally heat at 350 ℃.

Rearview mirror base: Adopting the "modular split film" scheme, the film material is pre cut into a fan-shaped shape and then spliced together.

Innovation in edging process

Rubber sealing strip edging: Use a special tool to embed the film into the rubber strip, with a depth of ≥ 2mm.

Sheet metal joint treatment: Using the "U-shaped groove edge closing method", the film material is folded back and fixed with a hot air gun.

Failure case analysis: After changing the color of a certain BMW X5, the edges and corners appeared to curl up. The reason was that the door handle was not removed during construction, resulting in uneven stress on the film material. The solution is to use the "segmented bonding+secondary heating" process after disassembling the components again.
